October 2023 NEWSLETTER
Introduction
Good afternoon folks.
A wild wet and windy day, but ideal for the garden and writing today’s Newsletter. Our PNMSA members have had quite a bit going on since the last Newsletter and so we have a few photos to share which show some of the good works – and fun – members have enjoyed. Get a cup of coffee and I hope you enjoy the latest news.

Lunches and Functions (L & F)
We remind you that one of our members, Troy and his wife, Anne will be performing at The Hangar during
Friday drinks on tomorrow night – we look forward to this with pleasure.
We still are looking to get a few more numbers for our excellent Ferry and Lunch trip to Tarra at Queenscliff on Wednesday 25 October. Still time to book!
Our
Inaugural PNMSA 9 hole Ambrose golf morning comp at Portsea GC on
Monday 4 December is confirmed, so keep that date free. Details will be available very soon.
Thursday Forum
We had a very interesting Bushfire Forum last week which was organized by Warren, Martyn and Lloyd. Members shared experiences, ideas and prompted us to review our personal plans should a bushfire occur on the Southern Peninsula.

Website Login
Warren has been working ‘behind the scenes’ to update our website and other complex IT stuff that is beyond most of us. He advises that:-
We have created a generic login to the Members section of the WEB site.
You will not need to login as yourself which has caused some difficulties.
The Login details are:
Login ID: PNMS
Password: Pnms#2023#
We propose to change the password annually to keep access to current members.
Electric Bike Presentation
As part of our Speaker’s program, members were recently treated to a fascinating presentation about electric bikes. John, from Rye Bike Shop, spoke enthusiastically about the bikes and brought along 3 different models for us to try out. If you have any interest in e-bikes, i suggest you visit the Rye Bike Shop and have a chat.

The Hangar BBQs
The Hangar is such a great place for a BBQ and we had members along enjoying the atmosphere for a chat, a refreshing drink and watching the AFL Grand Final and last weekend The Bathurst 500. As the weather improves, no doubt we will have more such informal events.
Some members brought along their beautiful cars and pictured below are two who admired the view and the cars – Julie Davison and Peter Moore.

Portsea Children’s Camp Charity Ride. The Sorrento Bay Riders raised over $25,000 for the Portsea Children’s Camp last week and some of our members were active participants on the day – as riders, as band members of The Shed Men and running the BBQ for Sorrento Rotary. See below some pics of the day – and our own Lino made the front page of the local paper. Well done everyone for supporting such a great cause.
The Hooded Plover Program at St J’s in Sorrento
Members Terry and Darrell have put in a lot of work supporting students at St Joe’s in Sorrento build Shelters for the Hooded Plovers – great work and the PNMSA input is greatly appreciated by the school. Rangers then place the shelters where the birds are most vulnerable.

Portsea Camp Playland

The Bill Peters Trophy
A numbers of our members are also involved with the BYS. We discovered that member John Peters recently presented The Bill Peters Trophy, named after his father. This Trophy race has been going since 1968 and John is justifiably proud to support the on going recognition of the Peters family association with The Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron.

Heritage Motor Show

Members understand that this show needs all the volunteer help possible to ensure everyone has a great time. Sorrento Rotary are hoping PNMSA members can give some time to support the Show, including assistance with marshaling the show cars etc. If you can assist, please contact Ray Davies on 0411 224 259. Tasks you can assist with vary – but any time – even just an hour or two – from 8am through to 3 pm would be most appreciated.
Well, lots of pictures this time – and I hope you enjoyed the read.
That’s all folks.
