2023 Hooded Plover Shelters

We were invited to assist a class of students at St Joseph’s Sorrento in making shelters for Parks Victoria. The team at Parks would identify a nesting site on one of the Mornington Peninsula beaches and install one of the shelters.

The team at Bunnings was great in donating the timber for the shelters and cutting the boards to size. A Grant from the Mornington Peninsula Shire provided brushes and varnish for completing the finish on the shelters. Darrell Mackay and Terry Phippen from the PNMSA were on hand to provide “expert guidance”!

The class of years 3 and 4 all joined in with the construction and painting under the watchful eyes of the teachers. Lisa Williams (Parks) and Chris Willocks (Friends of the Hooded Plover) were also on hand to engage with the students.

In all 22 units were put together and gratefully received by Parks Victoria.
