Where we are in December 2022
A crisis housing initiative has been underway for some 2.5 years, with James Rennie and Warren Dickins working with Bayview Care as advisors/facilitators in endeavoring to get the project up and running,
An Expression of Interest was submitted to Mornington Peninsula Council in relation to obtaining the use of 4 blocks of available land in Rosebud for the construction of crisis housing but it was unsuccessful, mainly because it did not have the support of a Registered Housing Organisation. A re-submission of the EoI is likely to take place in 2023.
Modular housing is considered to be the best option for this project and James has visited 3 companies that are interested in becoming suppliers.
Obtaining funding for the project is a significant issue, with the Victorian government potentially able to provide 100% of what is required. Support for funding needs to come from the Shire and other established organizations such as the Women’s Housing Initiative.
“Can Do”, which is a project being facilitated by Bay View Care to provide employment opportunities for displaced women, is also being supported by the PNMSA. At this stage the tasks being promoted are cleaning and gardening, with the sourcing of a suitable van for the gardening group being pursued by the PNMSA. Funding options for that purpose are being explored.
